LOCATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES (WHAT’s AVAILABLE)
This could be either developmental assignments to
improve your skills for the job you now occupy or new positions that you
identified during your assessment. Locate developmental assignments with your
supervisors input and through your networking contacts. To identify possible new
positions that meet your career goals take the following steps:

Review Chapter Seven and Identify job vacancies

Request informational interviews.

Research agencies through the United States
Government Manual, the Federal Career Directory,
various agency web sites, and the paperback version of "The
Book Of U.S. Government Jobs."

Review occupational listings of federal jobs by title
and series (Appendix B). Review the
Skills Index (Appendix E) and the Occupations by Education and Training
Categories
(Appendix D) to cross reference skills/degrees to occupational titles.
APPLYING FOR A JOB

Review Dennis Damp's book,

Government Jobs - 10th edition. This excellent resource helps job
seekers describe their skills and experience in the most eye-catching
readable way possible to edge out the competition. You’ll learn how to
write a professional federal resume and application, use key buzz words,
complete your KSAOs, and develop job search strategies that work.
Includes helpful sample resumes and applications. Available at many
libraries or you can order a copy toll free with all major credit cards
at 1-800-782-7424.

Retain a copy of your application and all other forms
required in the announcement.
These copies can be used for other bids. However, an original signature
must be on all copies sent.
